How to detect SAS drives? "Mass Storage Controller Configuration" menu in System BIOS shows no drives

Explanation of why some Intel® Server Board models do not detect SAS hard drives.

Description

SAS drives attached to onboard ports are not detected.

Resolution

Check in ark.intel.com, under I/O Specifications section and confirm product has integrated SAS Ports, if value is 0, adding a compatible RAID controller with SAS drives support will be required.

The Intel® Server Board S2600CW2SR/S2600CWTSR supports a Gen3 12G SAS IO Controller with LSISAS3008 (S2600CW2R/S2600CWTR does not support this).

Please, refer to section “3.4.9 Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) Support” on page 43 of the Intel® Server Board S2600CW Family Technical Product Specification.

Additional information

Some Intel® Server Board models does not have native support for SAS drives.​
