Do Cyclone® IV devices contain an Error Message Register (EMR) in the error detection circuitry?

Environment

BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
Description

No, Cyclone® IV devices do not contain an Error Message Register (EMR) in the error detection circuitry.

Cyclone IV devices will calculate the cyclic redundancy check (CRC) based on the entire chip rather than frame by frame. If a soft error does not occur, the resulting 32-bit signature value will be 0×00000000, which results in a 0 on the output signal CRC_ERROR. If a soft error occurs within the device, the resulting signature value will be non-zero and the CRC_ERROR output signal will be 1. The failing signature will not be able to point to which CRAM bit has an error. The 32-bit failing signature can only indicate whether there is a soft error or not.

Resolution

None.
