How do I obtain the TSD offsets for designs targeting Intel® Stratix® 10 E and P tile devices when I use the pinned out diode to measure the junction temperature and the Intel® FPGA Power and Thermal Calculator (PTC) to calculate the TSD offsets?

Environment

  • Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition
  • BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
    Description

    In the Early Power Estimator (EPE) for Intel® Stratix® 10 devices version 19.4 and earlier, the default Temperature Sensor Diode (TSD) offsets reported in the EPE tool were meant to be used directly with the temperature measured on the pinned out diode. In the Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition version 20.1, PTC replaces the EPE tool and the TSD offsets reported are meant to be used with the temperatures measured with IP Sense.

     

    If you are using the PTC from within the Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition software version 20.1:

    Add the following line into the quartus.ini file in your project directory. If you do not have a quartus.ini file in your project directory, create  a text file quartus.ini and add the following line in the file.

    thermal_calc_report_first_tsd_only=on

    If you are using stand-alone version of PTC version 20.1:

    Locate to the path of the Intel FPGA Power and Thermal Calculator 20.1 You can do this by right clicking on the icon for PTC and right clicking on it. Note down the directory listed as “start in” . Create a text file called quartus.ini in the directory pointed by “start in” and add the following line to the quartus.ini file

    thermal_calc_report_first_tsd_only=on


    If you want to revert back to the original behavior of the PTC version 20.1 of reporting TSD offsets with respect to the IP sense, remove this line from the quartus.ini file, and rerun PTC.

    Resolution

    This problem is fixed starting with the Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software version 20.3.
