Why is an SEU error reported in Intel Agilex® 7 devices with Intel® Enpirion® Power Module ED8401 and Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software versions 21.3 and 21.4?

Environment

  • Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition
  • BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
    Description

When using Intel® Enpirion® Power Modules, you may see an SEU error reported when using Intel Agilex® 7 devices and Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software versions 21.3 and 21.4.

This SEU error is reported because the voltage required by Intel Agilex® 7 devices is higher than the default Over-Voltage (OV) warning setting in the Intel® Enpirion® Power Module ED8401.

The OV warning is recorded by Intel Agilex® 7 devices as an SEU error.

You may see the SEU error, as shown in the screenshot below if you use the Configuration Debugger Tool (refer to AN 955: Programmer’s Configuration Debugger Tool).

    Resolution

To fix this problem,  set the VOUT_OV_WARN_LIMIT of ED8401 to be 950mV.

In general, refer to Intel Agilex® 7 Power Management User Guide, chapter "Fault Management and Error Reporting," to properly set all the relevant parameters in the voltage regulator.
